A classic staple in any kiddos lunchbox with a fun and tangy twist!
Our Hawaiian Pork Sloppy Joe’s are the perfect meal for busy afternoons before a long night of dance or for family game night around the table.
Hearty, satisfying and scrumptious for both dancers and parents alike, this meal is sure to put smiles on their faces and nutrients in their bodies!
Sloppy Joe’s was one of my favorite dishes when I was growing up.
I can remember marking the calendar in elementary school for the day they were served, ALWAYS looking forward to it!
When I decided to re-create this recipe, I wanted to add a new flavor profile that combined both sweet and tangy flavors to entice every pallet.
Who could resist the rich, saucy goodness that never stays on the bun if made correctly?!
I knew I wanted to use King’s Sweet Hawaiian rolls (seriously they are the BEST) , so it only made sense to switch the ground beef for pork and make the sauce with flavors from the islands.
Sweet Baby Ray’s Hawaiian Barbecue sauce is the perfect swap for the traditional ketchup and Worcestershire.
Let’s not forget about the broccoli slaw!
This completes the dish and gives it the tangy flavor, crunchy texture and creamy dressing that compliments the pork in amazing ways.
Best part is how simple it is to make!
Recipes Below:
Ingredients:
1 lbs Ground Pork
1 tablespoon Olive oil
1 teaspoon Onion Powder
1 teaspoon Garlic Powder
1 teaspoon Smoked Paprika (optional)
1 teaspoon Salt & Pepper
18 o.z bottle Hawaiian BBQ sauce
Broccoli Slaw:
One 12 o.z bag prepared Broccoli slaw mix
1/4 cup Mayo
1/2 cup Red Wine Vinegar ‘
1 teaspoon Lemon pepper seasoning
1 teaspoon fresh Parsley leaves (Italian or Curly)
1 teaspoon Kosher salt
1/2 teaspoon ground Black Pepper
Instructions:
First let’s start with the broccoli slaw!
Grab a large bowl and add the broccoli slaw mix, mayo and red wine vinegar. Fold together from the bottom up and be sure to coat the slaw completely.
Next add the lemon pepper, chopped parsley, salt & pepper and stir adding all that tasty FLAVOR!
Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and set in the fridge for a minimum of two hours, but overnight is recommend.
Now time for the ground pork!
Place a skillet with a tablespoon of olive oil over med-high heat and add the ground beef. Season with a dash of salt and cook until browned, about 7-10 minutes.
Add the onion & garlic powder, smoked paprika, salt & pepper and saute another 2 minutes until fragrant.
Last, add the Hawaiian BBQ sauce and stir to combine. Turn the burner down to low and simmer for another 5-7 minutes, remove from the heat and cool.
Remove the slaw from the refrigerator and stir to redistribute the dressing.
Top those tasty sweet rolls with delicious Hawaiian pork, broccoli slaw and wrap in aluminum foil to pack in the lunchbox or serve with a side of veggie chips!
Hope you enjoy!
